As well as this, winning gifts you new card packs to purchase, new deck structures based off your opponents that can immediately be used if you have the right cards, and free cards that were in your opponents’ deck. When you’ve won a duel in the single player you get points that can go towards a key element in any Trading Card Game: deck building. Completing each battle in the campaign this way makes me feel like I’ve learned something new about a card or monster that I can consider later, and this feeling is incredibly satisfying. After winner the duel, you can play it again from the opposing perspective, giving you even more decks to try out, more opponents to face, and more experience to learn from the game. I recommend doing the former, as this gives you the opportunity to try out new deck archetypes that you may not otherwise have tried, expanding your knowledge of how cards work together and, perhaps, giving you a feel for a new deck you might want to use outside the campaign. For each of these battles, you can pick to use the deck used in the anime or one that you’ve made, which I’ll bring up in a bit. Before each card battle in the campaign, the pre-amble shows the context for that battle, which is good for fans but can also be skipped to get into the duel swiftly, as I do much of the time. I don’t know how well the game does this, however, as I’m not the biggest anime fan. Another way the game teaches you how to play is with its offline single player campaign, which is divided into the different animes and follows their storylines.
